DCP Magarini aspirants withdraw from the race due to frustrations with Gachagua

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has encountered a setback following the resignation of Magarini parliamentary aspirant Furaha Chengo from the party in the upcoming by-election on November 27. Chengo expressed that he could no longer fulfill his role as a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC), citing frustrations with the leadership and internal structures of the party. In a letter directed to the Secretary-General of the party led by Rigathi Gachagua, which was also sent to the Registrar of Political Parties and various media outlets, he outlined his grievances. The aspirant accused the National Elections Board (NEB) and the Secretary-General of not providing adequate support to aspirants, pointing out issues such as poor communication, neglect of grassroots concerns, and a lack of transparency in decision-making processes. "The ongoing absence of communication, neglect of grassroots issues, and the inability to offer clear guidance have fostered a situation where aspirants like myself are left to address significant challenges without any support or direction," Chengo stated. While he commended the party leader’s vision and dedication, Chengo noted that systemic inefficiencies have diminished his trust in DCP’s capacity to operate effectively. He cautioned that if the party does not adopt principles of transparency, inclusivity, and accountability, it risks alienating the very members and supporters it aims to serve. His resignation occurs as political parties prepare for the November 27 by-elections, gearing up for the 2027 General Election, during which DCP has been positioning itself as a grassroots-oriented organization under Gachagua’s leadership.
