EACC Arrests Kericho Land Registry Official Over Sh210,000 Bribe Request

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has taken into custody a Senior Clerical Officer at the Kericho County Lands Registry on charges of soliciting bribes to expedite the processing of land title deeds.

The officer, named Dallington Kipkurui Mutai, faces accusations of demanding and accepting Sh210,000 to facilitate the processing of title deeds for two land parcels. According to EACC, Mutai was apprehended on Tuesday during an operation conducted by its South Rift Regional Office, following numerous complaints from the public. “He was arrested in an operation organized by the Commission after investigations indicated that he consistently requested ‘facilitation fees’ prior to commencing the production of title deeds,” the agency stated. The suspect was taken to Kericho Police Station, processed, and subsequently released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 while further investigations are ongoing. EACC emphasized that this operation is part of a broader initiative to combat bribery in public service delivery, aimed at ensuring that Kenyans have fair and transparent access to essential services. “The Commission will persist in enhancing intelligence gathering and surveillance in public institutions that provide critical services and are susceptible to bribery,” it concluded.
