MP Mark Nyamita discusses the impending disintegration of the opposition
Uriri MP Mark Nyamita has expressed skepticism regarding the United Opposition, contending that the coalition of leaders opposing President William Ruto is destined to fail due to its lack of a genuine ideological foundation. During a political talk show broadcast on a local television station on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Nyamita remarked that what is referred to as a united opposition is not motivated by policy or a collective vision, but instead by animosity towards the Head of State. "I am uncertain if there is anything that can be termed as a united opposition. Hatred cannot sustain unity for an extended period," he asserted, emphasizing that such a coalition is not viable. Nyamita elaborated that the present opposition movement consists of leaders who are united by their aversion rather than a definitive political agenda. "The United Opposition is a coalition of political figures united by their disdain for President William Ruto and the advancement of Kenya," he declared. He observed that fractures are already apparent among those advocating for the opposition bloc. He indicated that this was anticipated since the coalition was not founded on shared principles or ideology. "That cannot endure for long, and it is no surprise that fissures have started to appear," Nyamita commented. The Uriri legislator further noted that the initial surge of enthusiasm that accompanied the movement has since diminished. He maintained that the public has recognized the shortcomings of the political group, which has failed to provide a coherent alternative. "What united them was not a shared ideology; they are still in the process of learning from one another," Nyamita remarked, highlighting that the absence of a cohesive policy direction is eroding their strength. Regarding the Democratic Change Party (DCP), Nyamita stated that its launch was marked by great fanfare but has not yielded significant results in the political arena. "The DCP, which was introduced with much excitement, has not succeeded in presenting credible candidates," he noted, implying that the party has not met expectations.
