The return of Uhuru kenyatta in active politics worries Gachagua, DCP

The return of Uhuru to active politics is a significant development that should not be overlooked, according to Jubilee nominated MP, Sabina Chege.

On Tuesday, Chege remarked that Uhuru Kenyatta continues to hold considerable respect in many areas of the Mt Kenya region. She noted that recent political changes may have revived support for the former President, even though the region did not elect his favored candidate during the 2022 general elections. "Uhuru's re-entry into politics is quite intriguing and should not be disregarded," Chege stated during an interview on TV47. "There are individuals in Mt Kenya who still hold him in high regard, and I have observed that some regret not heeding his advice." The legislator emphasized that this is why the united opposition has valid reasons to be apprehensive. She contended that it would be erroneous to dismiss Uhuru’s significance based solely on the 2022 elections, asserting that the situation has evolved. "They cannot merely claim that he was present in 2022. The Uhuru of 2022, whom many overlooked, is not the same Uhuru we see in 2025, as much has transpired since then." Her comments arise amidst an increasing discussion regarding Uhuru’s political prospects, with some leaders proposing that he could play a pivotal role in influencing the Mt Kenya voting bloc in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. However, these views have been dismissed by leaders associated with the ousted Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, who assert that he is the new dominant figure in the Mt Kenya region. Chege reiterated that Uhuru’s influence, along with changing political alliances, has the potential to significantly reshape the political environment.
