20,000 Beneficiaries in Kajiado Receive Inua Jamii Funds

The government has allocated Sh2.4 billion to assist over 1.2 million vulnerable Kenyans through the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme for the payment cycle of September 2025.

A statement from the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs indicates that the funds have been distributed to support 1,212,670 beneficiaries enrolled in the programme. Each beneficiary is set to receive Sh2,000, with payments having started on October 6, 2025. In Kajiado County, more than 20,000 beneficiaries are collectively receiving a monthly stipend totaling Sh 41,284,000. Jimmy Njau Kamangi, the County Coordinator of Social Development Services, stated that the funds are aiding 13,520 elderly individuals, 6,241 orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs), and 888 individuals with severe disabilities. Kamangi mentioned that all beneficiaries in the county had received payments up to August, while the disbursements for September are currently in progress. He acknowledged that the programme has faced various operational challenges, such as inadequate mobile network coverage in remote regions and low literacy levels among some recipients, which hinder their ability to access funds through mobile money platforms. "Some young individuals have defrauded caregivers, but we have replaced them. Additionally, payments are occasionally made to deceased beneficiaries whose families neglect to report their passing," he remarked. The department is collaborating with local administrators to ensure that new vulnerable individuals are registered and that the funds reach the intended recipients. Plans are also in motion to implement financial literacy training to assist recipients in managing their stipends and preventing exploitation. Beneficiaries in Kajiado have expressed their gratitude for the support, stating that it has enhanced their quality of life. "This money enables me to purchase food and cover my medical expenses. Prior to this programme, I sometimes went without meals, and my health deteriorated because I could not afford my medications," shared Mary Naisula, 72, a resident of Purko ward in Kajiado Central.
