A looming rebellion is brewing at Bishop Mugendi Nyakegogi as stakeholders call for the transfer of Principal Boniface Masese
Just two years after the contentious transfer of Boniface Masese from St. Paul’s Igonga Boys School to Bishop Mugendi Nyakegogi High School, pressure is intensifying on the TSC to relocate him and appoint a new principal.
Speaking to us under
strict anonymity due to fears of retaliation, several parents, PA members, and
other stakeholders are now insisting on Masese's transfer, citing his inability
to meet the expectations set by his predecessor.
According to these
stakeholders, since assuming his role, Masese has not initiated any significant
infrastructural development projects, despite collecting development fees
annually.
It is alleged that he has
completely failed to enhance academic performance, and with students
approaching their KCSE exams, parents have declared that if the school’s mean
score remains stagnant or declines, they will forcibly remove him if the TSC
does not transfer him in January and appoint a principal from the local
community, a “son of the soil,” to lead the school.
Many assert that he
operates the school independently, failing to consult his deputies on critical
policy decisions, which has led to a decline in academic performance.
His leadership style is
characterized by authoritarianism, rudeness, intimidation, and threats against
those with differing opinions. He coerces PA members to endorse illegal
practices, particularly unlawful levies, which have become a significant burden
for parents.
Suppliers, non-teaching
staff, and BoG teachers are owed money due to outstanding bills, a situation
attributed to the mismanagement of school resources. Parents have vowed that if
the TSC does not transfer him in January, they will prevent him from entering
the school or evict him.
