Auditor general has revealed significant corruption at Kirimara High School, which is under the administration of Principal Nicholus Muchemi
The
auditor general's report has uncovered illicit dealings at Kirimara High
School, led by Chief Principal Nicholus Maina Muchemi, who assumed his role in
May 2022.
Stakeholders
support the report, asserting its accuracy and calling for further investigations
by the AECC and DCI.
Parents,
students, and stakeholders now concur that it is imperative for Muchemi to be
transferred due to his failure to manage the school effectively, hence the
demand for his transfer by the end of this term. T
hey
argue that his leadership style is characterized by arrogance, coercion, and
intimidation of PA members to endorse and approve illegal activities, while
those with differing views face threats and victimization.
Since
his appointment, there has been a lack of significant progress at the school,
with academic performance declining to a C- (minus) grade, leaving little to
celebrate.
Earlier
this year, he allegedly requested parents to contribute funds to ensure
students “pass exams.” Parents refused, and it is reported that these funds
were intended to undermine the integrity of the 2025 KCSE.
Suppliers
and non-teaching staff are owed over Sh2 million. Only those suppliers who
agree to provide a 10% kickback receive timely payments. The report indicates
that the statement of assets and liabilities presented in the financial
statements shows a payables balance of Kshs.24,927,297.
However,
this balance includes trade payables amounting to Kshs.2,341,978, which have
been overdue for more than three years. This situation contravenes Section 53
(8) of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015, which stipulates
that 'an Accounting Officer shall not initiate any procurement proceedings
until they are satisfied that sufficient funds to meet the obligations of the
resulting contracts are reflected in approved budget estimates.'
