CoG Announces Mutahi Kahiga’s Removal As Vice Chairperson In A Unanimous Decision
The Council of Governors (CoG) has reached a unanimous decision to dismiss Nyeri Governor Dr. Mutahi Kahiga from his position as Vice Chairperson, denouncing his recent comments regarding the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as "untimely, reckless, and unspeakable." In a statement released on Wednesday after a Special Council meeting, CoG Chairperson and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi indicated that the decision was made following thorough discussions on the interpretation and public repercussions of Kahiga’s statements, which incited national outrage and demands for his resignation.
"In light of our statement issued yesterday, we convened a Special Council meeting to discuss the interpretation and impact of the remarks made by H.E. Mutahi Kahiga, the Vice Chair of the Council of Governors, and the necessary actions to address them," Abdullahi stated.
"As a result of this meeting, the Council has unanimously decided to remove H.E. Mutahi Kahiga from his leadership role as Vice Chair, effective immediately. We have also agreed to schedule another meeting to elect a new Vice Chair," he added.
The Council distanced itself from the comments made by Kahiga during a burial in Nyeri County, where he was recorded in a vernacular video making controversial statements regarding Odinga’s death.

Apology
Abdullahi remarked that Kahiga’s comments were "personal opinions" and did not reflect the collective views or values of the 47 county governments.
"We wish to express our profound disappointment regarding the statements made by the Governor. [CoG] continues to assert that these sentiments are his personal opinions that do not represent the views and values of the Council of Governors. We therefore completely disassociate ourselves from and condemn these remarks, which were untimely, reckless, and unspeakable — particularly during this period of profound mourning," the Council declared.
