Departmental Leaders Advised Not to Miss National Celebrations

Leaders of government departments and agencies may soon face repercussions for not participating in national day celebrations across the counties.

Central Regional Commissioner (RC), Joshua Nkanatha, emphasizes that attending national day events is a civic duty, which also serves as a demonstration of support for the current government by civil servants. While speaking in Nyeri at the Central Regional Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-RICMC) meeting, Nkanatha remarked that the presence of government officials at these events sets a positive example for the public and highlights the significance of patriotism. He voiced his concerns regarding the low turnout of government officials, who he observed are treating these events with indifference by sending junior staff in their stead, with some even choosing to forgo the events entirely. "Historically, all department heads attended these celebrations without exception. However, currently, these events are predominantly attended by security agencies and National Government Administrative Officers. We will be going to Kitui for the Mashujaa Day celebrations, and all Principal Secretaries, Chief Executive Officers, chairpersons of commissions, and Cabinet Secretaries will be present, yet some of you will remain at home, leaving the county celebration to the county commissioner and the security team," Nkanatha addressed the department heads.
