EACC Detains Nairobi Water Employee for Forged KCSE Certificate
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has detained and brought to court an employee of the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) for allegedly utilizing a counterfeit Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to gain employment. As per the EACC, the arrest was made following investigations initiated after a complaint was lodged on October 12, 2023, which claimed that Michael Kilonzo Mualuko had submitted a falsified KCSE certificate that was supposedly issued by Bishop Ndingi High School. The Commission indicated that its investigations verified the certificate was indeed forged and was employed by the suspect to secure a position at NCWSC. "Upon concluding the investigations, the Commission forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who agreed with the recommendation to initiate criminal proceedings," stated the EACC. Mualuko appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Ondieki and faced charges of forgery, presenting a false document, deceiving a principal, and submitting a forged certificate. He entered a plea of not guilty to all charges and was granted release on a cash bail of Sh100,000 or a bond of Sh1 million. The case is scheduled for mention on October 22. The anti-corruption agency reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining integrity in both public and private sectors, pledging to persist in taking decisive action against individuals engaged in document forgery and associated corruption crimes.
