Firearm Stolen From Policeman During Raila’s Funeral On Sunday

 


A police firearm was taken during tumultuous events at the funeral of the late Raila Amolo Odinga on Sunday evening in Bondo, Siaya County.

  As per a police report registered under OB 47/19/10/2025 at Bondo Police Station, the incident transpired around 4:30 p.m. while the Governor of Kakamega was departing from the funeral ceremony held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST). The report indicates that a group of unruly youths succeeded in seizing a loaded Jericho pistol from a police officer assigned to the Governor’s VIP protection team. “It was reported by No. 102661 PC Benson Kodia Olayo, a GSU officer stationed at GSU Headquarters, Ruaraka, and currently assigned to the VIP Protection of the Kakamega Governor, that while entering the Governor’s official vehicle Reg. No. 37CG 086A, unruly youths who had gathered around the Governor snatched his firearm,” the report states in part. The stolen firearm, a Jericho pistol with serial number 40309458, was loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition at the time of the incident. “Attempts to apprehend and recover the stolen firearm were unsuccessful due to the crowd. Measures have been implemented to recover the stolen firearm,” the report further elaborates. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Bondo has assumed control of the case. The funeral of the former Prime Minister and ODM party leader drew thousands of mourners from across the nation, including prominent political figures, government officials, and foreign dignitaries. Authorities have urged for calm as investigations proceed.
