Kenya Power Net Profit Drops By Sh5.6bn To Sh24.5bn

Kenya Power's net profit for the fiscal year concluding in June 2025 decreased by Sh5.6 billion, resulting in a total of Sh24.5 billion, a decline from Sh30.1 billion the previous year, primarily due to diminished electricity revenue and foreign exchange impacts.

The revenue from electricity sales fell by Sh11.84 billion to Sh219.29 billion, which the company attributed to lower forex recoveries and the implementation of a reduced base tariff in accordance with the tariff reduction strategy. "This decrease was largely attributed to diminished foreign exchange recoveries, following the sustained stability of the Kenyan shilling, and the application of a lower base tariff consistent with the approved tariff reduction strategy," the utility stated in a press release. Finance expenses also surged significantly to Sh4.72 billion, up from Sh683 million the prior year, reversing earlier exchange gains of Sh7.89 billion into an exchange loss of Sh794 million. Notwithstanding the decline in profit, the Board of Directors has proposed a final dividend of Sh0.80 per ordinary share for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.
