Khalwale Faces UDA Expulsion Over Disloyalty Following Anti-Ruto Position In Malava
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale may be at risk of losing his role as Senate Majority Whip after the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) issued a disciplinary notice due to his support for a rival candidate in the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election set for November 27. Charles Njenga, Chairperson of UDA’s Disciplinary Committee, stated that the party has granted the outspoken legislator a period of fourteen days to respond to claims that he actively campaigned for Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP–K) candidate Seth Panyako, rather than endorsing UDA’s candidate David Ndakwa. Njenga further indicated that Khalwale’s actions represent disloyalty to the party that facilitated his election as Senator for Kakamega County, emphasizing that his public support for a rival candidate constitutes serious misconduct under the party’s constitution. “Your involvement and actions clearly indicate allegiance to another political party, which amounts to conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to the United Democratic Alliance Party,” the letter continues. Anti-party stance The committee referenced Article 75 of the Constitution of Kenya, along with Articles 68 and 69 of the UDA Constitution, which mandate members to maintain party discipline and advocate for its interests. Njenga pointed out that, as a senior member of the party, Khalwale is expected to promote the party and adhere strictly to its Code of Conduct. Khalwale has been instructed to provide justification within fourteen days as to why disciplinary measures should not be imposed against him.
