Kisii County Reduces Taxes for Small Enterprises, Increases Billboard and Soapstone Charges in the 2025 Finance Bill

The Kisii County Assembly has officially approved the 2025 Finance Bill, which aims to enhance the management of county finances and promote transparency in the utilization of public resources.

During a statement made at the County Assembly premises, Finance Committee Chairperson and Monyerero Ward MCA Peter Otachi indicated that the new bill is intended to alleviate the tax burden on residents in comparison to the 2024 bill. Otachi emphasized that the assembly has implemented differentiated yet equitable tax rates across sub-county, municipal, and county levels, taking into account the diverse income levels produced by businesses in each region. "We have abolished taxes for street preachers, and small business proprietors with a single business permit will now be required to pay KSh 500, a reduction from the former KSh 1,500 to KSh 2,500," stated Otachi.
