Kisumu bids farewell to Baba

In the early hours of Saturday morning, Raila Odinga's body commenced its final journey through Nairobi before being transported to Kisumu.

The casket, adorned with the Kenyan flag, reached Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 5 am, carried by the well-known black Mercedes-Benz hearse from Lee Funeral Home, a vehicle historically linked to Kenya’s most distinguished leaders. Accompanied by personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and members of the clergy, the casket was moved from the hearse to a military wheel carrier prior to being loaded onto a Kenya Air Force aircraft. The dignified ceremony, performed with full military honours, signified Raila’s final departure from the capital. The aircraft departed from JKIA at 6:30 am, en route to Kisumu, where a public viewing is scheduled to take place at the Mamboleo grounds. The flight was designated ENIGMA01 in tribute to the late former Prime Minister.
