KQ, Qatar Airways Expand Partnership With 11 New Global Routes
Kenya Airways (KQ) and Qatar Airways have unveiled a new codeshare agreement that will provide Kenyan travellers with access to 11 additional international destinations. This expanded agreement coincides with Qatar Airways’ introduction of a third daily flight between Doha and Nairobi, enhancing connectivity between Kenya and the Gulf region. As part of this new arrangement, passengers flying with Qatar Airways can now connect to eight new African destinations via Nairobi, which include Juba (South Sudan), Lilongwe (Malawi), Livingstone (Zambia), and Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe). Conversely, customers of Kenya Airways will have access to 11 global destinations through Doha, including Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Singapore, Male (Maldives), and Tokyo (Japan). Julius Thairu, Chief Commercial and Customer Officer of KQ, stated that this partnership improves connectivity across continents while providing customers with enhanced flexibility and comfort. “This partnership will enhance connectivity across Africa and Asia, expand our network, and open up a world of new destinations for our customers,” Thairu remarked. “Together with Qatar Airways, we are dedicated to improving travel experiences and fostering trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.” Thierry Antinori, Chief Commercial Officer of Qatar Airways, expressed his support for the collaboration, noting that Africa is a crucial market in the airline’s global growth strategy. “Our partnership with Kenya Airways strengthens our commitment to linking Africa with the rest of the world through our Doha hub,” Antinori stated. “By merging our networks, we are creating new opportunities for travellers and reinforcing economic ties between our regions.” The two airlines also intend to broaden their cooperation beyond passenger services, looking into collaboration in cargo, ground handling, lounge access, fleet maintenance, sustainability, and loyalty programs.
