Matiangi Affirms Jubilee as the Preferred Party for the 2027 Presidential Campaign
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has formally announced his intention to run for the presidency on a Jubilee Party platform, marking a new chapter in the party's efforts to revitalize itself after years of internal strife. Matiangi made this declaration during a consultative meeting with youth leaders in Nakuru County on Friday, where he encouraged residents to register early for the elections, emphasizing the significance of widespread participation. "Hearing their ideas and aspirations reinforced my conviction that we can transcend the current failures and forge a better future," he stated. "With their bravery and vision, we will restore hope, renew our unity, and create the future that our youth deserve." His announcement follows closely after his attendance at Jubilee's Special National Delegates Convention (NDC) held at the Ngong Racecourse, which was chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. The convention, occurring after extended internal disputes, was perceived as a pivotal moment for Jubilee's political strategy in anticipation of the 2027 General Election. ‘Revitalization’ Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni characterized the convention as a moment of revitalization, highlighting that Matiangi's proactive involvement with party members is part of a larger repositioning effort. "This assembly is not merely preparatory; it is a reaffirmation of our dedication to unity, revitalization, and a politics driven by purpose. The narrative of Jubilee is still unfolding, and together we advance," he remarked. Matiangi's candidacy injects energy into an already competitive opposition landscape that features former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), Martha Karua (Liberation People’s Party), and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper). Former Chief Justice David Maraga is also contesting under the United Green Movement (UGM) banner.
