Moses Kuria has expressed his desire to contest for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2026, with his opponents alleging that he is a project of Ruto aimed at fragmenting the votes from Mount Kenya.
The former Presidential Advisor and Cabinet Secretary has emerged as the latest political figure to announce his intention to challenge Johnson Sakaja for the role of Nairobi County Governor in 2027. Kuria, who previously served as the MP for Gatundu South, stated that his decision was influenced by President William Ruto’s recent expressions of dissatisfaction regarding the declining conditions in the capital city, which he attributed to widespread filth, uncollected waste, and overall incompetence. “Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart. As Prime Minister Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has repeatedly told me, Nairobi cannot continue to be the City of filth, garbage, and incompetence. I have heard your plea. Therefore, I will present myself as a candidate for the Governorship of the esteemed County of Nairobi in 2027,” Kuria declared via his social media platforms. He indicated that this joint effort would involve the participation of private sector entities to assist in waste collection and disposal throughout the city. “Nairobi cannot continue to be the city in the filth. You can see that we have already commenced the cleaning of the Nairobi River. Furthermore, all estates are nearing the completion of agreements with the private sector regarding our strategy to clean this city. It cannot persist in its current state,” the Head of State remarked during a Sunday Service commemorating the 70th anniversary of AIC Ziwani Church’s faith and dedicated service. This initiative arises amidst increasing worries about inadequate sanitation and waste buildup in various areas of Nairobi, which have adversely affected the city’s environment and public health.
