Mutula, Nzioka Urge Youth To Register Voters
Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. and Mbooni MP Erastus Nzioka have urged the local youth to enroll as voters during the ongoing national registration exercise. While addressing attendees at Utangwa Catholic Church in Mbooni sub-county, Mutula emphasized to the young individuals that this is the sole constitutional method to exercise their democratic right to vote for their preferred leaders in the upcoming 2027 general elections. "I implore you to register as voters to ensure your voice is represented at the ballot. There is no alternative means to remove underperforming leaders who have failed in their duties due to poor leadership. You must first register as a voter before you are legally permitted to elect the leaders you wish to guide the nation towards a better future," stated the governor during a fundraising event for Utangwa Catholic Church aimed at acquiring a vehicle. Simultaneously, the governor reassured those who are skeptical about the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC)'s strategy for vote delivery, asserting that the law contains sufficient safeguards. Nevertheless, he mentioned that if there are any shortcomings in the current electoral laws, members of parliament have the authority to propose necessary amendments, indicating that nothing hinders them from enhancing the nation’s electoral processes. "The current legislation has adequate protections to ensure our votes are accurately counted. Furthermore, there remains ample time for the national assembly to implement changes where we identify deficiencies," the governor remarked. In addition, Nzioka reminded Kenyans that it is their democratic right to register as voters, enabling them to participate in electing their desired leaders, from ward representatives to members of parliament and senators, culminating in the presidential election.
