Parents of Thumaita Girls are now calling for the transfer of Principal Jane Muriithi as allegations of mismanagement continue to arise

Angry parents at Thumaita Girls High School in Kirinyaga County are protesting against their principal, Jane Muriithi.

They assert that she has been in charge for a considerable time without delivering any significant results, prompting demands for her transfer. Thumaita is a county school that has been underperforming academically. Records indicate that the highest mean score achieved by the school over the past five years is 4.5. Parents have been anticipating improvements in academic performance, but these expectations have not materialized. Consequently, stakeholders are insisting that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) must transfer Muriithi by the end of this term, allowing for the appointment of a new principal who is a local resident in January. Regarding development, stakeholders argue that there has been no substantial development initiative completed, despite parents contributing development funds annually. Instances of unauthorized levies, lacking the approval of the Cabinet Secretary, are widespread. She allegedly employs intimidation tactics to persuade the Parent Association to endorse these illegalities, while Board of Governors teachers receive inadequate compensation, often being paid mid-month. Suppliers are owed money due to unpaid bills, leading parents to question why these suppliers are not compensated promptly, especially when they are compelled to pay school fees under the school's 'Zero Balance' policy at the start of each term.
