Parents, stakeholders demand immediate transfer of Emmily Onyango of Kaborok Girls
As the third term approaches its conclusion and form four students prepare for the KCSE, which signifies the end of their four-year secondary education, the situation at Kaborok Girls High School is worrying.
Stakeholders
are expressing their discontent with Principal Emilly Onyango, urging the TSC
to facilitate her immediate transfer. Sources indicate that the primary
motivation behind these calls for her transfer is the declining and
inconsistent academic performance.
It is
imperative to note that the school’s dwindling academic performance of the high
turnover of teachers occasioned by Onyango’s arrogance and threats to teachers
with divergent views on matters academic policies.
Since
her appointment many years ago, the school has maintained stagnated mean score,
with no indications of improvement this year. At one point, she requested
parents to contribute funds for "passing exams," suggesting an
attempt to undermine the integrity of the KCSE 2025.
Her
leadership abilities have not met expectations; instead, her approach has been
characterized by high-handedness, intimidation, and coercion of teachers,
Board, and Parents Association members to endorse illegal practices.
Parents
have been burdened with unauthorized levies that she compels PA members to
approve without the explicit consent of the Cabinet Secretary for Education, as
mandated by the Education Act.
Regarding
development, she has failed to initiate any significant projects at the school,
despite parents consistently paying development fees each year. The school has
substantial debts to suppliers, with payments only made to those willing to
offer substantial kickbacks.
Non-teaching
staff have also been affected, facing delayed salaries, while Board of
Governors teachers are similarly struggling under her administration. Parents
and stakeholders are now insisting on her immediate transfer; otherwise, they
will prevent her from entering the school when the first term begins next year.
The
stakeholders are requesting that the TSC appoint a principal who is a local
resident (daughter of the soil) to lead their school.
