Police Extend Support to Njoro Girls Following School Embarrassment Due to Lack of Undergarments
A group of police officers in Nakuru County reached out on Saturday to assist a family in Njoro whose two daughters faced humiliation at school for not having undergarments, an act that resonated deeply within the local community.
The officers, representing the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Administration Police Service (APS), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), provided food, clothing, school bags, shoes, mattresses, and various household items to the family’s residence. As reported by the National Police Service (NPS), the delegation was headed by Beatrice Kiraguri, Officer in Charge of the Northern Corridor Transit Patrol Unit (NCTPU), alongside David Wafula from the DCI’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit, and Njoro OCS Chief Inspector James Magiri. This visit was prompted by a television report aired on September 22, which highlighted the distressing experience of two sisters from Kenana Primary School, who were allegedly ridiculed by teachers for their lack of undergarments—an embarrassment that led to their withdrawal from school. Compassion Touched by the narrative, the officers expressed their desire to demonstrate that policing encompasses compassion as well. “Our responsibilities extend beyond law enforcement. We are dedicated to enhancing communities and assisting families during challenging times,” Kiraguri stated during the visit. The female officers in the group took time to encourage the girls, motivating them to stay committed to their education. “Discipline, resilience, and education will pave the way for your future. Many prominent leaders have emerged from modest beginnings,” one officer advised the girls. Their father, Simon, conveyed his appreciation, noting that the gesture had reinstated his family’s dignity. “You have demonstrated that the police are not merely protectors but also allies in our challenges. May God bless you,” he remarked. Neighbor Debra Chepkemoi commended the officers’ visit, stating that it inspired the entire community.
