Pressure intensifies on Kadika Girls candidates as anxiety grows among students regarding the need to improve on their mean score

The situation at Kadika Girls in Nyatike sub-county, Migori county is concerning, as form four candidates face significant pressure to raise their mean score following the school's designation as a National school.

According to parents who requested anonymity due to concerns about potential repercussions, the school principal, Roselyne Ochieng, is exerting immense pressure on the candidates to achieve a higher mean score. Parents assert that the pressure on their daughters is overwhelming, leading to fears that it may hinder their focus and result in poor academic performance. It has been reported that the school's guidance and counseling team is neglecting their responsibilities, as the girls are not receiving sufficient counseling support. Last year, a similar situation led to the tragic suicide of a form two girl in Milimani village, Nyatike Sub-county, Migori County, shortly after her mother inquired about her school report card. The 17-year-old girl had returned home from school when her mother asked for the report card. Rather than responding, she left without saying a word and was later found lifeless, hanging from a tree near their residence. Her classmates from the same village reported that she had been struggling academically and that both the school and the principal had threatened her with expulsion or retention in her current class. Parents are now expressing concerns that their daughters may face a similar fate if the school does not cease the relentless pressure for improved grades. This demand for better results coincides with rumors that the principal may be transferred to her home county of Siaya. Parents and stakeholders are also advocating for Madam Roselyne to make way for a principal from the county, especially now that the school has achieved national school status.
