Reasons parents have committed to withdrawing their children from St Bakhita by the conclusion of the third term in 2025


As the national examinations approach in two weeks, there appears to be significant disarray at St Bakhita schools located in Nairobi County.

  Numerous parents have pledged to relocate their children to alternative schools due to serious disagreements with the school's board. The primary issue at hand involves several matters, with the most significant being the elevated school fees imposed by the board. It is noteworthy that in April of this year, over 1,000 parents initiated legal action against the board, which oversees St Bakhita Daycare & Kindergarten, as well as primary and junior secondary schools across multiple campuses, for increasing fees by as much as 20 percent mid-term, citing inflation as the reason. The parents expressed that this decision would disrupt their children's education.27 Jul 2025 They are now directing their grievances towards Mrs. Felista Muthoki Mutinda, the founder and managing director of St Bakhita Schools, which includes a kindergarten, primary school, and junior secondary school. More than 1,000 parents have committed to transferring their children to more affordable schools. They are now accusing Felista of arrogance, intimidation, coercion, and threats directed at both parents and teachers who hold differing views. According to some parents who spoke to us under strict anonymity due to fears of retaliation from Felista, it is anticipated that by the start of the next academic term, half of the student body will have departed for better educational institutions with superior facilities. Parents are reportedly organizing efforts to ensure that the majority of students are transferred in the upcoming term as a means of penalizing the confrontational Felista, who insists on high fees while leading a life of luxury. The current concern is that with such a large number of students indicating their intention to leave, the school will, by January of next year, resemble a mere shadow of its former self.
