Ruto Offers To Host New Japan Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi

President William Ruto has extended an invitation to Japan’s newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, emphasizing his desire to strengthen the Kenya-Japan partnership in addressing global challenges and fostering sustainable development.

He expressed his congratulations to Prime Minister Takaichi on her historic election, describing it as a significant vote of confidence in her leadership and a notable achievement for Japan’s democracy.   "Your victory serves as a testament to the trust placed in your vision, leadership, and steadfast dedication to the advancement and prosperity of the Japanese populace." "As you take on this esteemed responsibility, I wish to reiterate Kenya’s unwavering commitment to the strategic partnership between our two nations. Kenya greatly appreciates the generous development assistance that Japan continues to provide across various sectors of our national priorities," the Head of State remarked. President Ruto utilized the letter to reaffirm Kenya’s dedication to its strategic relationship with Japan and made an early appeal for enhanced bilateral cooperation in critical areas, including economic development, peace and security, and collaboration on global matters. "The productive discussions I had with your predecessor during the highly successful Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), along with the jointly endorsed TICAD 9 Declaration, reaffirm our mutual determination to elevate Kenya-Japan relations to even greater levels. My involvement in TICAD 9 offered an excellent opportunity to build on the outcomes of my previous visit to Japan in February 2024, which aimed at promoting private sector-led initiatives for our mutual benefit," he stated. The President’s letter was sent shortly after Takaichi, a staunch conservative and protégé of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, secured her position through a coalition formed between the ruling LDP party and the right-wing Japan Innovation Party.
