Safarilink Denies Claims Of Fare Hikes On Nairobi–Kisumu Route

Local carrier Safarilink has rejected claims circulating on social media that it has significantly raised airfares on the Nairobi–Kisumu route.

The airline described these reports as "false and misleading," in response to a post by Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai on X, which asserted that the fares had surged to $644 (Sh93,000) for a one-way ticket. In screenshots disseminated online, Alai claimed that Safarilink had increased prices due to high demand for flights to Kisumu, as Kenyans travel to Bondo, Siaya County, for the funeral of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. "We categorically deny the misleading and unfounded allegations being spread by Mr. Robert Alai and Mr. Cyprian Nyakundi. The screenshots shared, including those allegedly from our booking platform, do not accurately represent the complete range of fare classes available across various travel dates," Safarilink stated in a press release. Safarilink further clarified that its fares remain within the standard range of between Sh6,500 and higher, depending on demand and the timing of the booking. "Safarilink employs a tiered fare structure, with options ranging from Promo to Premium classes, all of which are clearly displayed during the booking process," it added. "We want to stress that such fares have never existed in our system. For clarity, our Kisumu–Nairobi fares generally start from Kes 6,500, as consistently indicated across various dates in the upcoming months.
