Security Personnel Disrupt Vehicle Theft Syndicate in Kisumu City

A multi-agency team has arrested two suspects and recovered 11 stolen vehicles during a targeted operation aimed at dismantling a motor vehicle theft syndicate in the Migosi area of Kisumu East sub-county.

Kisumu County Commissioner (CC) Mr. Benson Leparmorijo confirmed the operation, stating that security agencies acted on a tip-off and conducted raids on two residences on Monday night at Khayeko Junction, located two kilometers south of Migosi Police Station, as well as another property in Aliwa village. "The raids resulted in the recovery of eleven vehicles suspected to be stolen and the apprehension of two individuals. The suspects were unable to provide any documentation proving ownership of the vehicles, and we are collaborating with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to assist in identifying the legitimate owners of these vehicles," Mr. Leparmorijo remarked. The two suspects, aged 37 and 32, are currently detained at Kasagam Police Station and are set to face charges related to the possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, among other offenses. Leparmorijo noted that the primary suspect, identified as Evans Otieno Meda, is still at large as law enforcement intensifies efforts to locate him. The County Commissioner indicated that a thorough search at the residence of Eric Mwanga, the first suspect in Aliwa Village, uncovered various suspected stolen vehicle parts, including three car radios of different brands, a rear car plate number cut into four pieces, a set of car number plates, and other assorted vehicle components. All recovered vehicles are currently held at the Migosi Police Station yard, pending ownership verification by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). Mr. Leparmorijo stated that the operation will persist as police follow leads into what is suspected to be a broader motor vehicle theft syndicate and resale network operating within Kisumu and its neighboring counties and countries.
