South Nyanza Churches Prepare to Consecrate New Regional Bishop
A minimum of 70 Redeemed Gospel Churches located in the South Nyanza Region are organizing the consecration of their new regional Bishop, Vitalis Odour. This significant event will be overseen by the founder of the denomination, Archbishop Arthur Kitonga. Rev. Oduor, who serves as the senior Pastor of the Redeemed Gospel Church in Oyugis and also holds the position of sub-regional overseer, is set to be consecrated on the 29th of November this year. He will succeed Bishop Moses Chengo, who is reportedly stepping down from his role. In a press conference held in Oyugis town, Rev. Oduor stated that his new responsibilities will encompass overseeing Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, and Nyamira Counties, as well as certain areas of Kisumu, extending to Ahero Junction. The cleric mentioned that the church is actively mobilizing resources to host the event at Agoro Sare High School in Oyugis town, as the church facilities are insufficient to accommodate the anticipated large number of attendees. He emphasized that all 16 regions of the Redeemed Gospel Churches, each led by a bishop, will be present at the event and extended an invitation to everyone to come and hear the word of God, in alignment with the church's vision. "The vision of the church is to preach the word of God and reach the unreached with the Good News," he remarked. The Reverend’s wife, Emily Oduor, invited all denominations in the region, including those not affiliated with the Redeemed Gospel Church. Caroline Oundo, the Church Treasurer, expressed her hope that the event would attract a large turnout, necessitating significant financial resources, and thus urged friends and well-wishers to assist the church either financially or through other tangible contributions. Additionally, Assistant Pastor Mary Othiambo praised God for what she described as a blessing for the Oyugis church in receiving a Bishop. She elaborated that this position entails greater responsibility for every church member, who must now support the incoming Bishop in fulfilling his mandate.
