State Department Confirms Academic Credentials for 450 Employees
A total of 450 staff members in the Department for Internal Security and National Administration in Nyeri have submitted their academic and professional certificates for verification. This initiative follows a recent directive from the Public Service Commission (PSC), which mandated all government employees to present their academic credentials for verification to eliminate individuals with fraudulent documents. According to the directive, all civil servants must validate their KCPE, KCSE, and diploma certificates issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) by October 18. Data from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) indicates that the public service workforce amounted to 923,100 in the 2020/2021 fiscal year. Monica Mwakazi, the Assistant Director of Human Resources Management and Development, stated that the Department aims to reach nearly 500 staff members, ranging from junior clerks to senior officials, in this verification process. Mwakazi also noted that the scope of the exercise has been expanded to include officers who were hired over ten years ago to ensure comprehensive inclusion in the final report. She emphasized that the Government is committed to verifying all academic credentials, starting from the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education up to the highest qualifications. "We have over 500 employees, and as of today (Monday), we have successfully collected data from 450 employees. The process is ongoing, as there are additional employees who were in training at the Administration Police Training College last week, and we will address them tomorrow (Tuesday) as we conclude the exercise," Mwakazi stated. The officer further mentioned that once the verification process is finalized, they will provide recommendations regarding staffing needs and suggest personnel transfers based on individual competencies.
