Umma University Launches Sh1.4 Billion Ten-Storey Complex in Kajiado


Umma University has made significant strides in its expansion by inaugurating the Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sumait Complex, a ten-storey facility valued at over Sh1.4 billion, intended to serve more than 10,000 students.

  The complex includes 81 classrooms, six state-of-the-art laboratories, a 650-seat examination hall, a 416-seat auditorium, a 400-seat multi-purpose hall, a gymnasium, a student and conference center, as well as administrative offices, which comprise 10 faculty offices and three boardrooms. During the commissioning event, President Dr. William Ruto emphasized the government's dedication to empowering universities to cultivate a new generation of graduates who are skilled, ethical, and innovative, prepared to generate employment, advance technology, and tackle the nation’s urgent issues. He pointed out that reforms such as enhanced governance, restructured financing, and the Student-Centered Funding Model have contributed to ensuring university sustainability, restoring financial stability, reducing fees, and broadening access to higher education throughout Kenya. The President commended the university’s evolution from a modest college in Thika to a fully established university in Kajiado County. “The University has consistently demonstrated remarkable advancement in infrastructure development, aligning with its vision of delivering quality higher education and contributing to national progress,” he remarked. President Dr. William Ruto lays the foundation stone during the unveiling of the Sh1.4 billion Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sumait Complex at UMMA University in Kajiado on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Vice Chancellor Dr. Halima Saado Abdillahi stated that the new complex would enable the university to launch programs in Health Sciences, Engineering, and Technology, while also enhancing existing courses in Islamic Studies, Business, Education, Computer Science, Nursing, and Social Sciences.
