Viewing of Raila’s Body Commences in Kisumu as Mourners Experience Collapses

Despite the well-organized events at Kisumu Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, accompanied by stringent security measures, health personnel are currently overwhelmed by the high number of mourners collapsing due to overcrowding, emotional strain, and fatigue.

The atmosphere has become increasingly charged. Medical teams are stretched to their limits, finding it difficult to manage the rising number of individuals fainting amidst the heat and emotional distress. Temporary first aid stations have been established; however, as the crowds continue to swell, the response times are becoming slower. “Individuals are collapsing indiscriminately, regardless of age. Many have not consumed food or water for hours just to attend this event. We are doing our utmost, but we are inundated,” stated John Otieno from the Red Cross. Authorities have called on mourners to maintain their composure and have reassured the public that the viewing period will extend until 3 pm. Police officers mounted on horses, some accompanied by sniffer dogs and a helicopter, have attempted to manage the crowd, but their efforts have been ineffective. Initially, police had restricted mourners to six stands out of the 13 available in the 12,000 capacity stadium. Nevertheless, the crowd has surged and now occupies all the stands.
