Wandayi Commits Loyalty to Ruto, Asserts Raila Received Unfair Treatment in Past Agreements

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has expressed steadfast loyalty to President William Ruto, stating that the late opposition leader Raila Odinga had ultimately discovered a "genuine partner" in Ruto after years of what he referred to as "unfair deals" in earlier political collaborations.

While addressing attendees at the national funeral service for Odinga at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in Bondo — an occasion graced by President Ruto, former high-ranking government officials, and international dignitaries — Wandayi committed to fulfilling the late leader’s desire for unity and cooperation within the newly established inclusive government. The Energy CS mentioned that Odinga had personally encouraged him to serve the nation with dedication and to fully support the current administration. "He conveyed to me that he had participated in numerous political arrangements and partnerships, but he had come to realize that President William Ruto is genuine," Wandayi disclosed. "He also mentioned that you [Ruto] have shown him the highest level of goodwill. The only enduring tribute we can offer to Baba and continue his legacy is to reinforce the partnership he initiated with President William Ruto." Wandayi compared Ruto’s collaboration with Odinga’s past associations — with former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta — noting that the ODM leader frequently ended up at a disadvantage. "There are individuals who have collaborated with Baba in the past, but throughout that time, he consistently found himself with the short end of the stick — an unfair deal," Wandayi remarked. "We must commend you, Your Excellency, on this day as we say goodbye to Baba, for you have made us proud as a community and as a nation." The CS delivered a heartfelt tribute to his mentor, portraying Odinga as a paternal figure, advisor, and exemplar. "Baba represented many roles for me — my father figure, mentor, advisor, and role model," Wandayi stated.
